An untitled Mario film is in the works. This film an upcoming computer-animated film to be produced by Illumination who brought you Despicable Me and The Lorax. They are in association with Nintendo with distribution by Universal Pictures. This is the third feature film adaptation of Nintendo’s Mario video game series. There is the 1986 Japanese- only anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros. The film will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel and features an ensemble of voices.

The cast including Chris Pratt as Mario. Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Also, Charles Martinet who voices Mario in all the games will make surprise cameos throughout the movies. The released for this movie will be December 21st, 2022.
