My Initial Introduction

Growing up, I listened to a wide assortment of music. From Carrie Underwood to AC/DC, I was exposed to a wide variety of artists and genres at a young age. I never had a preferred genre or artist until I was around 12.

On May 17th, 2015, Twenty One Pilots released their album “Blurryface”. This album is what first introduced me to them, and for the past decade, they have remained my favorite artist.
In the summer of 2015, I would hear their songs “Ride” and “Stressed Out” all over the radio, and while I enjoyed listening to these songs, I never went out of my way to search for who sang them. That changed in 2016 when Twenty One Pilots released “Heathens” as part of the tracklist for the movie “Suicide Squad”. I became addicted to this song and its corresponding music video, and in August of 2016, I partly turned my Instagram page into a Twenty One Pilots fan page.
The Importance Of Their Music To Me
During the summer of 2016, I fondly remember listening to all of their music on repeat on Spotify. I have a specific memory of me playing "Blurryface" while my cousin and I slept downstairs.

This album means a lot to me to this day, as it brought me through so much. I was 12 in 2016, just about in my teens, which are notoriously difficult years of life. Around this time, I started struggling with my social anxiety and depression. Listening to these disorders get discussed in their songs meant so much to me. I felt less alone; I felt heard for once in my life. I was so young and didn’t understand what I was feeling, and their music helped me to realize what was happening and how I needed to open up about these problems.

On October 5th, 2018, they released their album, “Trench”. Just as with Blurryface, Trench also meant just as much to me. On October 19th of the same year, I attended their “Bandito Tour”. This experience felt surreal. Tyler’s voice is so calming to me, and the visuals at the concert were beautiful and well-made. I could tell how much thought went into every detail and aspect of their performance, and I’m not sure I will ever experience something like that again.

Since then, they have gone on to release three more albums: “Scaled and Icy” in 2021, “Clancy” in 2024, and “Breach” in 2025. Unsurprisingly, these albums also hold great importance to me, and I cherish listening to them as much as I cherished listening to their earlier albums at my much younger age.
Final Words And Questions
Over the past year, I have expanded my music taste far more, but Twenty One Pilots remains my favorite, even if I don’t listen to them as often as I once did. The deeper meanings of their songs still move me as they did before, and on difficult days, I find that putting their music on helps improve my mood. Their music helped shape me into who I am today, and their music helped me through some of the most difficult times of my life.
