To first be able to answer this truly important question, we have to set certain parameters for a snack food. What is a snack? Is it a pre-meal? A post-meal? A term coined by Gen-Z to describe someone they think is attractive? Ignore that last part, but in my personal opinion a snack is a food with an equal balance of tastiness and nostalgia to entertain even the hungriest person. That being said, here is a list of my Top 5 Ultimate Snack Foods.
5.) Andy Capp’s Hot Fries
Before there were Hot Cheetos, there were Hot Fries. The perfect blend of spice and crisp, these chips never failed as an after school snack as a kid. Points off because there just weren’t ever enough.
4.) Little Debbie’s Fancy Cakes
Opening a pack of these quickly became a race against the clock because they never lasted in a house with three brothers. Fancy Cakes, you have a special place in my heart.
3.) Honey BBQ Fritos
Whatever sorcery Frito-Lays used to develop these flavor twists is greatly appreciated by 8 year old me. Once again though, Lays fails to give us enough of the goodness, so points off for a lack of quantity.
2.) Golden Oreos
If you say that the original Oreos are better, don’t talk to me. Many have tried and many have failed to replicate the taste of the Golden Oreo. A very close second, but nostalgia beats flavor.
The Ultimate Snack
1.) Nacho Cheese Doritos
The ultimate snacking experience is none other than the classic Nacho Cheese Doritos. Sleepovers, birthday parties, wherever there was an opportunity for snacks, these were the go to. The memories associated with this snack are almost more of a reason to make this my number one rather than the taste itself. ALMOST. The chip speaks for itself, a perfect crunch with a thick layer of dusted cheese. Lays offers many other flavors, many of which I also enjoy. However, nothing will ever top these triangular pieces of cheesy heaven on Earth. The Ultimate Snack!
