The Final Sign-Off: A Look Back on What Made Wabash Valley College Worth Every Struggle.

Leaving WVC

Well, the day has finally come. For some students, the last days at Wabash Valley College are in sight, with me being one of them. So, for my last hurrah, I wanted to look back on my time here and see the good, the bad, and the notable moments that have made my years here some of the best of my life.

  1. Being an On-Air Personality for Wabash Valley College.

The most common part of my years here was the job of being a radio personality for 89.1 The BASH. Going in, I remember thinking to myself “I’m gonna mess it up.” However, that dread was turned into excitement after actually being in the studio.

89.1 The Bash
"Hello and Welcome to 89.1 The BASH! I'm your host, Alex."

Being able to join the station on-air has provided me with the taste of vocal performances, which I would go on to experience further with our next subject.

  1. Providing a love for voice acting.

Not everything was a public performance, but even assignments provided great memories. With the class literally called Audio Production, of course, we would dabble in audio recording.

While being on-air provided me with an introduction to voice acting, dubbing over a script is what fully got me on-board with voice performances.

Voices may be fun, but bloopers will always be funnier.

This experience also showed me why character acting is important as well as physical acting. Looking back at a lot of media I grew up with, I could now recognize why I liked certain characters.

As a more recent example, I was playing through the game TMNT: Splintered Fate and was trying to figure out where I’ve heard the voices of the turtles before. After a quick search, I realized that Mikey was voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who is well known as the voice of Spider-Man in the PS4 game and Saskue from the English Dub of Naruto.

Not only that, but Raphael was voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who is the current voice of a certain blue Hedgehog I just got done talking about.

Recognizing voice roles helped me to enjoy characters before they were even introduced, which I never would have realized if I was not behind the microphone myself.

  1. Helping Behind the Sports Production

Now, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell, but I was not a massive sports guy growing up. I know, really shocking, but being able to work behind the scenes of Warrior games helped me to appreciate the work teams put in to compete.

89.1 The BASH Soundboard
While it may just be just a board to some, in those headphones is a buzzer beater.

Most of my time was focused on the radio side of games, rather than on-site work. While I was not able to see, I was still able to feel the excitement of the games by helping to broadcast them.

  1. Videos to call my own.

Another assignment turned passion was gained with video editing. Working on different videos really helped me to focus on a good balance of visual effects and humor.

My video editing experience truly was an Adobe Premiere Pro 2025.

These assignments turned what could have been a boring drag into a fiery passion, which led me to create some of my own custom challenge videos. (Which you can view here if you want.) While it may be boring to some, I love video editing, and that wouldn't be possible without Wabash Valley College.

  1. And finally, the thing you’re reading right now.

While being a later addition from my time here at Wabash Valley College, these blogs have been great to write. While I was not able to do everything I had planned to do, these blogs helped to boost my creative ideas.

These blogs also allowed me to realize why I love these games. You never really know your own opinions until you put pencil to paper, or in my case, fingers to keyboard.

WVC Best Decision
Don't let the sign trick you. This was the BEST decision I have ever made.

In the end, I’m glad I chose Wabash Valley College as my college. It allowed me to connect to so many people. It allowed me to show voice acting opportunities I never dreamed of doing. It allowed me to have fun. But, as time moves on, so do we. All good things come to an end, but that’s just a part of life. I’m glad I spent my time here and, hopefully, so does everyone else graduating.
