If Your Semester Had A Soundtrack, What Would It Be?

Reflection through music

I feel like every semester flies by when you're in it. In fact, it feels just like yesterday when I first walked into the halls of Wabash Valley College.

For me, music has always been an important part of my life. Whether I was blocking out the world after a long day, or screaming the lyrics to my favorite song in a full-out karaoke session in my car, music has been there getting me through every day.

That's why, when I hear a certain song, it brings me back to a moment in my life that feels nostalgic. That's the power of music. No matter how long you go without hearing a certain song, when that familiar tune hits your soul, you're suddenly back to your senior year of high school hanging out with all of your best friends smiling and laughing.

So, what would your soundtrack look like?

It's Not Just One Mood

Semesters are definitely not consistent. I'm definitely not the same starry-eyed student I was at the beginning of the year. Emotions were had, tears were shed (a lot), comfort food was eaten, and don't even ask me how filing my taxes went.

And through all of it, I was listening to music. Just like how I'm sure you did too.

You may not know it yet, but you probably already have a "semester soundtrack" you haven't discovered.

What were the songs that got you through the hardest times? What were your go-to study songs?

What about the random songs you overplayed because it made everything feel a little more manageable?

Take all of those songs, put them into a playlist, and congratulations. There's your semester soundtrack.

My Soundtrack

For my soundtrack, I simply took the most listened to songs from the last few months and made them into a playlist. Here are 5 songs from my semester soundtrack:

  1. "In The Name of Love" - Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha

  2. "I Don't Want To Live Like This"- James Marriot

  3. "In My Room"- Julia Wolf

  4. "iloveitiloveitiloveit"- Bella Kay

  5. "Bleed Out"- South Arcade

Why the soundtrack hits different

I think we usually think of music as something in the background when we're focused on something else. But, truly, we listen a lot more than you think.

To me, there's nothing better than remembering the feelings a song brings me years down the line.

Even if years go by, music remembers. and that's why music is amazing.

Make your own soundtrack to come back to in the future to relive the moments. Good and bad. See where it takes you.

Thank you for reading.
