Top 3 reasons why WVC was the Best Decision ever

My time as a Wabash Valley Warrior

3: The instructor

My time at Wabash Valley college would not have been the same without the wonderful instructor of the Radio/TV program, Kyle Peach. I first met Kyle in high school, when I was working as a freelancer at the University of Evansville for their ESPN+ broadcasts.

As a aspiring sports broadcaster, I looked up to Kyle as a professional and as a person. He was what every broadcaster should be in my eyes. Later on, I was able to work with Kyle on a broadcast for a UE Men's Basketball game. That still is one of my favorite broadcast memories.

Of course, Kyle did what any professor would do and recruited me to attend WVC. I was unsure at first, until he showed me how welcome this place would make me feel. I am so happy to call Kyle my instructor, and now, ultimately, my friend.

2: The People

I have been lucky enough to be exposed to some great people while studying here. These strangers have become friends over the past 24 months, and I am happier because of it. I spent many long nights on the road for basketball games with them, and I wouldn't have it any different.

My partner for the Girl's/Boy's Basketball teams last year was Rylan Robb. Rylan is a phenomenal worker and student. He helps out with anything he can and will never complain. He and I spent many hours together talking about anything while trying to make the time pass on the way to whatever small town we had to go to next.

This past season, my partner in crime was Max Gerlach. Max is a spectacular sports mind. He made my job as a play by play broadcaster much easier with his knowledge of the game. He is always energetic, no matter the opponent that Mount Carmel plays.

I would've never imagined two years ago that I would've made the friendships that I did over the past two basketball seasons. Thank you to both; it was fun while it lasted!

1: Real World Experience

I don't think there is a college in the country that allows for the real-world experience that Wabash provides. I came out of high school wanting to be a play by play broadcaster, and I was able to broadcast almost 100 games while going to school at WVC.

Not only were sports a main stay in my head during my time here, but all of the time in the news studio helped tremendously as well. I was exposed to every aspect of broadcast media. From news casts, to video editing, to writing this blog. Not one element of the broadcast world was left out.

Hearing all the stories of how certain four year universities wait until their students are seniors to give them this type of experience baffles me. I am leaving Wabash Valley with all the training I need to go out and be a broadcaster right afterwards. I am proud to be a Warrior because of that.
