WVC Students Have Nothing To DO After Class.

Do You Have Nothing To Do In Mount Carmel?

I’m sure you’re thinking “How can I have fun in Mount Carmel?” Well, so was I for a while until I found a few fun activities I can do in Mount Carmel.  Let’s be honest, there isn’t a whole lot to do in this town since this is a college town, and most of the money here goes to the college or the many fast-food places around town. However, I do have a great list for you of the very limited but fun activities you could do around town.

College Sports

Since this is a college town, obviously the first thing anyone would think of is sports. Wabash Valley has a pretty big selection of sports you could go watch. We have baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, etc.   The baseball team has the most members of any sport team at Wabash Valley. Personally, I like to watch the basketball teams, both men and women's, teams play.

The men's games do tend to get heated quickly, but the women's team is only there to destroy the other team. The women basketball team has won every single game I've gone to. Both are great to watch.

If you don't want to actually drive to the game, we have you covered. The button below will bring you to Channel 15's YouTube channel where we stream the majority of our games.

Ten Pins Bowling

Despite the outside appearance of the building, the inside of Tenpins bowling alley is relatively nice. It’s cheap. Sure, the lanes mess up a bit, but if you’re ever bored with your friends, bowling is always an option. You can pay a dollar to listen to a song on the jukebox or head to the back for some pool.

Again, the place is cheap, so I couldn’t complain much while I was there. A few buddies and I had a great time there. I was even in last with a 49, but I was still having fun. You never

know what might occur. The button below will direct you to Google Maps to locate Tenpins.

Wabash county museum

Believe it or not, but Mount Carmel does have some pretty interesting history. If you've ever heard of the Lone Ranger radio program then you might be familiar with Fred Froy and Brace Beemer. Brace Beemer took over the lead role for Earle Graser after he died. Froy was Brace Beemer's understudy for 15 years

until the program ended. Beemer was also born in Mount Carmel.

When the TV show started to air, Froy started to work for them. When Froy died in 2010, his entire collection of Lone Ranger memorabilia was set to be given to the museum in 2018. I've been there myself,

and I have to say it is pretty cool. There are a few statues of the Lone Ranger as well as his horse, Silver.

Beall Woods State Park

I've gone to this park a few times, but the only time I really stopped there was when Grayson Tinsley and I went there when the entire park was frozen over. This large pond was pure ice and was frozen enough that my buddy walked on it and got the picture below. This park has multiple trails, and there's even one with a small waterfall along the path. I have heard the mosquitoes there do get pretty bad.

Mount Carmel City Park

Mount Carmel City Park isn’t that big of a park, but it still has a basketball court, a life size Tomater from Cars, and a tank just sitting in the park. This park has a nice golf course called West Berwick Golf Course at Mount Carmel, and they always have people playing on it. I have never been golfing, but there's plenty of people, so it couldn’t be bad. The park also has a restaurant called Stymie’s Rest, which I have never been personally, but I've heard it’s good.

These are the activities I have found to do in Mount Carmel. Mount Carmel is a pretty small town, but looking at this town it seems like there really should be more things to do. Mount Carmel is a college town, so a lot of the money people are making in this town is from college students. So, you would think businesses would try to bring more entertaining activities for the college students for more profit. Imagine an airsoft arena or even just a simple arcade--anything really, as long as it's not another gambling den. You don't see it in Indiana, but here in Illinois it feels like every turn there's a sign for slot machines. Mount Carmel is really missing out on a lot of profit. If Mount Carmel had a laser tag arena or a small put-put course or anything relatively entertaining for college students, the town and that business would be really well off. WVC Students really have nothing to do after class.

What kind of entertainment would you like to see come to Mt. Carmel?

  • Trampoline park

  • Arcade

  • Escape room

  • Miniature golf
